The British School at Rome is delighted to present Spring Open Studios 2026, an event dedicated to studio visits of artists in residence at the BSR.

The artists will be present with some of their work to answer visitors’ questions and share their research: Anna Clough – Rebecca Scott Rome Resident, Susie Green – Abbey Fellow, Lisa-Marie Harris – Sainsbury Scholar, Danny Leyland – Abbey Scholar, Richard Malone – Derek Hill Scholar, David Osbaldeston – Abbey Fellow, Janette Parris – Bridget Riley Fellow.

During the Open Studios, there will be an ongoing performance, This Is What It’s Like, by BSR Bridget Riley Fellow Janette Parris, in collaboration with Grossosonnoviola. This Is What It’s Like is a live performance combining spoken word, ambient music, narrative songs, video projections, and live large-scale drawing. The work foregrounds the everyday lived experiences of people within their communities, with a particular focus on urban life, the changing cityscape, and the gradual disappearance of the high street.

The event represents a different way of experiencing research in progress, that aims to give the audience a broader insight into the artists’ work, to discover their residency projects, their creative practices and, most importantly, to understand how a new environment, meetings and network with the local artistic community, can give rise to new experimentations.

The event will be held in-person. No registration is required to attend and the entrance is free.
