Rome Scholarship in Architecture: Six Month Fund

The current funding for the Rome Scholarship in Architecture is drawn from the matching donations received from practices participating in the newly-established, ‘Reading Rome’ summer school. From this year two places on the summer school will be specifically allocated to Black and Asian-led practices, with funding generously provided by the 1851 Commission.

This produces sufficient monies to fund an annual, three month Rome Scholarship, and it seems unlikely, at least in the near future, that there will be an opportunity to achieve any more than this.

It remains, however, one of the long term ambitions of the Faculty of Architecture to increase the duration of the scholarship to six months, if not always, at least periodically.

The aim of the Six Month Fund is to make it possible for other supporters to make additional one-off, or regular, donations or bequests, in order to establish a reservoir of funds which, as it accumulates, might then be intermittently drawn upon to allow the periodic extension of the scholarship from three to six months. The BSR has received an initial donation to the Fund which will be expended as a matching contribution to any contributions received from other sources.

Any contribution, at any scale, would be enormously appreciated.
