Some of the most significant gifts to the British School at Rome in the last 50 years have been legacies. See below for inspiring legacy stories from some of our supporters.

You may choose to designate your bequest or we will use it to support the area in most urgent need at the time.

Legacy Types

Residual Gift
This gift allows the whole or a specified proportion of the remainder of your estate to go to the BSR after all other legacies, debts, or other liabilities have been met.

Pecuniary Gift
This is a fixed sum that you specify to be given to the BSR.

Reversionary Gift
This kind of gift allows you to provide for your family first, with the ultimate legacy reverting to the BSR when the primary beneficiary dies.

Your will is a very personal matter, and whilst the Development Office will be pleased to discuss your intentions, we strongly advise you to consult your own legal advisor before drafting or altering it.

The British School at Rome enjoys full charitable status which means we receive the full value of your intended gift while possibly reducing the tax burden on your estate if you are a UK taxpayer. Other countries may also provide for tax-free legacy contributions to the British School at Rome. You should seek professional advice on reducing your inheritance/estate tax liability. Please email the Development Office if you would like to have an initial confidential discussion.
