An Italian activist and writer, Alessandra Bocchetti began her experiences in her youth as a director for Unitelefilm, the production company of the Italian Communist Party. In 1975, she founded the feminist collective “Studio Ripetta” in Rome, which takes its name from the street where it is located: a community of study on history, philosophy, anthropology, sociology and literature through the critical feminist point of view. In 1978, she founded with others the “Centro Culturale Virginia Woolf – Università delle Donne”, an ideal continuation of the Ripetta Studio. To date, she is a member of the feminist group “Se non ora quando Factory”.
In 1979 Paola Scarnati promoted the establishment of the Archivio Storico Audiovisivo del Movimento Operaio e Democratico (Historical Audiovisual Archive of the Workers’ and Democratic Movement), which she directed for many years, and of which she was a member of the Board of Directors (from 2011 to 2018). From 2016 to 2019, she promoted and was a member of the Directorate of the Cesare Zavatini/ Unarchive Prize. She currently collaborates with the same archive, among others on “Il progetto e le forme di un cinema politico”.
