The BSR is delighted to announce the election to an Honorary Fellowship of Mr Peter J Smith. A long-time champion of archaeological research at the BSR, Peter has generously supported the modernisation of the archaeological facilities and the funding of post-doctoral positions to assist the BSR’s major research projects at the Basilica of Saint John Lateran and Portus.

In 2023 the Peter J Smith Senior Fellowship in Archaeology was established with Dr Angela Trentacoste taking up the position in September. Peter’s election to an Honorary Fellowship recognises his fundamental contribution to the growth and success of the BSR archaeology programmes.
