Derek Hill Foundation Scholarship

The Derek Hill Foundation Scholarship offers an exceptional two-month residency at the BSR, providing a unique opportunity for an artist based in the UK or the Republic of Ireland whose practice is rooted in painting and/or drawing.

Established in memory of painter Derek Hill, who served as Adviser to practising artists at the BSR in the 1950s, the scholarship honours his deep connection to Italy and lifelong support for artistic exchange.

The residency includes accommodation in a purpose-designed residential studio, offering time and space to focus deeply on your practice, develop new work, and engage with a vibrant international artistic community in Rome.

Eligibility: Open to residents of the UK or the Republic of Ireland.

Applications for 2026-2027 will open in late November.
