NEW OPEN CALL 2026-27: The Derek Hill Foundation Scholarship

The British School at Rome is delighted to partner with the Derek Hill Foundation in offering the Derek Hill Foundation Scholarship, newly expanded from two to three months. This residency continues Derek Hill’s legacy of fostering artistic exchange and supporting painters and draughtspeople in Italy, a country he loved deeply. Hill served as Adviser to practising artists at the BSR in the 1950s, and the scholarship honours his enduring commitment to nurturing artistic practice.

Th scholarship provides an exceptional opportunity for an artist based in the UK or the Republic of Ireland, whose work is rooted in painting and/or drawing, to spend three months living and working in a purpose-designed studio at the BSR (September-December 2026). The residency offers the time, space, and creative support to develop new work within an international, multidisciplinary community at the heart of Rome.

The fellowship offers:

– Board and accommodation in a residential studio at the BSR for three months

-A monthly stipend of £1500 for three months
