It is with much sadness that the BSR shares news of the sudden passing of Mr Peter J Smith, Ashby Patron and Honorary Fellow. Since 2017 Peter generously sponsored the BSR’s major archaeological research projects at the Basilica of Saint John Lateran and Portus, as well as facilitating the modernisation of the department. Peter cared passionately about the BSR, and in 2023 supported a new Fellowship in his name for early career researchers in archaeology. He will be much missed by all of the BSR community.
