We are thrilled to announce the arrival of the long-awaited catalogue, “Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Etchings from the Research Collections of the British School at Rome”, authored by Clare Hornsby and Caroline Barron. This project is now complete, and we are so happy to finally share it with you!
Between 2021 and 2024, four annual exhibitions were held at the British School at Rome, each showcasing a selection of Piranesi’s prints from our research collections, curated by Clare Hornsby and Caroline Barron. These exhibitions were accompanied by an online catalogue, which was hosted on our digital collections website.
In 2023, the project received a generous grant from the Tavolozza Foundation, which significantly supported the publication of this book. We are deeply grateful to the Foundation for its invaluable contribution.
This project would not have been possible without the enthusiasm of Valerie Scott, BSR Librarian, who retired in August 2021, and Professor Chris Wickham, who served as interim director during that time. Special thanks are also due to Beatrice Gelosia, our Deputy Librarian, who worked side by side with the curators on the catalogue, offering her expertise and tireless dedication—especially during the copy-editing and proofing stages.
