The British School at Rome is seeking a new Chair of the Council of Trustees, as Mark Getty approaches the end of his term. This is a unique opportunity to lead one of the UK’s foremost research institutions abroad and support its mission to foster world-class interdisciplinary research and practice in the arts, humanities, and architecture.

We are looking for an experienced, committed individual with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of governance, and a passion for the BSR’s areas of activity. Knowledge of the UK higher education and charitable sectors, as well as an interest in expanding the BSR’s profile across the Commonwealth, are desirable.

The new Chair will begin a handover period in January 2026 ahead of formal appointment in May 2026.
