READING ROME, ARCHITECTURE SUMMER SCHOOL AT THE BRITISH SCHOOL AT ROME

Call for applications from Black- and Asian-led practices, in partnership with the Paradigm Network.

The ‘Reading Rome’ architecture summer school at the British School at Rome will take place from 16-21 September 2024 in Rome, Italy.

The course will be led by award-winning architects Stephen Witherford and William Mann, and will investigate the relationship between architecture and the city of Rome. The course combines detailed site visits in and around Rome led by specialists and the course leaders, with studio-based work at the BSR.

In 2024, thanks to the generous support of the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, the BSR in partnership with the Paradigm Network, is offering two fully sponsored places on the Summer School to young architects – or soon to be architects – from Black and Asian-led practices.

The sponsorship provided by the 1851 Commission includes all course fees and expenses, accommodation and meals, and a contribution to fund travel to and from Rome. Participating practices will be invited to a follow-up event in London following the course.

Applications are now invited from practices to propose individuals within their teams to attend the Summer School. Applications should include a brief description of the practice (up to 200 words, with supporting images) and a statement from the individual outlining why they would like to be considered for one of the two places (up to 300 words with supporting images, or a video of up to three minutes).

Closing date for applications is 9 March 2024. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of March.

Applications should be sent by email to the British School at Rome: s.peterlini@bsrome.it
