The British School at Rome and Keats Shelley House invite applications for The Michael Marks Poet in Residence, a one-month residency in Rome from 1 to 30 April 2027, generously supported by the Michael Marks Foundation.
The residency offers an emerging UK-based poet a month immersed in Rome’s rich cultural landscape and in the creative and intellectual community of the BSR. Alongside dedicated time for their own writing, the resident will work with the Director of Keats Shelley House to find new ways of bringing poetry into conversation with the Museum, its collections and its audiences, through readings, spoken-word performances, workshops, community events or digital projects. The residency will also include a public reading of the poet’s own work.
We are looking for a poet who is self-motivated, collaborative and open to experimentation, with an interest in creating meaningful encounters between poetry, place and new audiences.
Open to UK-based poets with an independent creative practice and substantial work experience.
Applications close 30 November 2026 and should be submitted via BSR Slideroom: https://bsrome.slideroom.com
