This paper introduces the Horizon funded Twinning Project “Greek Heritage in European Culture and Identity” (GrECI; Project no. 101079379). In addition to outlining the consortium’s academic goals, the speakers explain GrECI’s ongoing research, using historical examples to highlight the connections between Greek books, language, and identity in early modern Europe.

Natasha Constantinidou (University of Cyprus) works on early modern intellectual history and history of the book. She is co-editor (with Han Lamers) of Receptions of Hellenism in Early Modern Europe, 15th-17th centuries (Brill, 2020). She also currently coordinates a Horizon Twinning collaboration project entitled GrECI, Greek Heritage in European Culture and Identity (GrECI). 

Han Lamers (University of Oslo) specializes in the cultural history of Ancient Greek and Latin, with a focus on the early modern period. Earlier this year, he published a critical and annotated edition of the Latin poems by Manilius Cabacius Rallus of Sparta, a Rome-based Renaissance poet originally from Greece (Brill, 2024). He also coordinates the GrECI project.
